Low-Fire

This gallery represents a selection of Fawn’s low-fire work 2013-2014.

Low fired clay, aka earthenware or terracotta, is the most common of natural clay bodies. It has a low firing temperature so does not become vitrified (glass like and non porous) until it is covered in glaze. Due in part to the low fire temperatures, there is a wide spectrum of colors available. At Mud Shed we will be working with mid-fire clay bodies which are non-porous (they can hold water after being fired and before being glazed) and are extremely durable. Our mid-fire glazes are dinnerware, dishwasher and microwave safe.
